I grew up in the North East of England, with my family's roots stretching back to the North West of Iran. Food was always the heart of our house, the thing that pulled everyone to the same table, however busy the week had been.
Back in Iran, meals often weren't eaten at a table at all. A sofreh, a cloth spread out on the floor with every dish within reach, or a takht, a raised wooden bed, often cushioned with a Persian rug, you'd sit on cross-legged. Wherever it was laid out, that's where the whole family gathered, and that sense of everyone reaching for the same spread is what NOONO tries to bring to a market stall. I decided to share some of the vibrant sofreh's I have experienced when visiting the homes of those I love.
